Teal
Oil and plaster of Paris on wooden board
60.9 x 60.9 cm

Teal is a self-portrait centred on my favourite colour, symbolising serenity, mindfulness, and the steady rhythm of my childhood in one place. My face, created through casting, appears slightly distorted, reflecting imperfection. Tearing through the board, it signifies human presence in identity, while vein-like roots represent heritage and lineage. Their oscillation reflects my inherited passion for music.

Wattle
Oil on wooden board
60.9 x 60.9 cm

Wattle is a Vanitas-style still life of transient objects representing me. Rooted in memento mori, it reflects life’s impermanence and the certainty of death. My father’s camera reflects my passion for photography, while my mother’s Warner Brothers film slate symbolises my film aspirations. The David Bowie cards show my love for music, the Union Jack and wattle represent my heritage, the Eiffel Tower reflects my schooling, and the skull signifies mortality.

Poppies
Oil on wooden board
60.9 x 60.9 cm

Poppies is a Vanitas still life of objects chosen by my friend Isaac. Rooted in memento mori, it reflects the impermanence of life. Poppies and wine reference his French heritage and upbringing in Bordeaux. A teddy bear recalls his birth, while macarons show his love of sweet treats. The sunglasses connect him to his father while living on the other side of the world, and sporting objects reflect his active nature and passion for both rugby and contact sports.

Coquelicot
Oil on wooden board
60.9 x 60.9 cm

Coquelicot is a portrait of Isaac, using a vivid red linked to poppies and remembrance. The colour evokes passion and vitality, reflecting his character and Mediterranean heritage. His cast face represents human presence in identity, while the vein-like roots symbolise heritage and connection. Their lifelike quality reflects emotional intensity and his bond with nature.

Irises
Oil on wooden board
60.9 x 60.9 cm

Irises is a Vanitas still life of transient objects chosen by my best friend Olympia. Rooted in memento mori, it reflects impermanence and death. Rooted in history as the inspiration for the fleur-de-lis, the irises represent her French heritage, while the orange references southern traditions. The shell and pineapple evoke her Tahitian culture, while the cat figurine and jewellery box her Cambodian roots. The books reflect her literary interests, and the candle signifies mortality.

Indigo
Oil and plaster of Paris on wooden board
60.9 x 60.9 cm

Indigo is a portrait of Olympia, using a colour linked to sensitivity, creativity, and calm. Inspired by irises, it reflects her positive presence and interest in fashion through its global textile history. Her cast face represents human presence in identity, while the vein-like roots symbolise heritage and connection. Their flowing forms reflect her stable upbringing and uplifting personality.

Olives
Oil on wooden board
60.9 x 60.9 cm

Olives is a Vanitas still life of transient objects chosen by my friend Blaise. Rooted in memento mori, it reflects impermanence and death. Olives and pomegranates reference his Greek heritage, while paintbrushes and ink honour his parents’ artistic lives. The specific books chosen recall his late mother’s writing. The scorpion and skull symbolise death, and the cowrie shell represents luck.

Olive
Oil and plaster of Paris on wooden board
60.9 x 60.9 cm

Olive is a portrait of my friend Blaise, using a colour tied to nature, in which Blaise spent a large amount of his time while living in Switzerland, as well as with the Greek goddess of wisdom, Athena, a reflection of Blaise’s strong character and his Greek heritage. His face, created through casting, represents human presence in identity, and the vein-like roots symbolise heritage and lineage, while their soft swirls reflect his calm yet vibrant personality.
